Ah, this one is great - and I hadn't seen the baseball image either - you really capture the power of those moments. Both images remind me quite a bit of paper sculpture illustration, a technique I've always found powerful - Ron Berg comes to mind.
Thanks! They actually were paper sculpture... sorta. These were my thesis project years ago, there were four of them... and they were printed big and with layered bits, so the basketball was way up front, then his legs, then torso, then background, etc. So it was like a paper relief sculpture thingie.
